As most of you know, I've been conducting interviews for my sleep paralysis research. A common theme throughout the interviews is the feeling of being alone with the various experiences, and having no one to talk to about them. The same is true of anyone on a spiritual journey.
As the experiences are unique to the individual, to explain them to someone who has not experienced them is often difficult and fruitless. One of my interviewees shared with me a song that they wrote to express their emotions.
With their permission, I share it here with you. The sentiments in the song are common and I appreciate that I have been allowed to share it on this platform with you.
“Alone
In a world full of people
Where there’s someone for everyone
Seems like there’s no one for meFeel alone
In a world full of people
All trying to find a way
To a place unknown and sometimes I just close my eyes
Pick up my guitar
And I leave this world
For a little while
Go to a special place inside
A place where I’m safe
A space where I can just smile
And let my Spirit
Be free to soar
Let it take me places
That I could never find
Anywhere else
In this great big world
But I found it inside
When I walked into the LightAlone
In a world full of people
Where there’s someone for everyone
No one to walk with me
Sometimes I feel so alone
In a world full of people
Waiting for the day
I go back homeWhen the good Lord comes
To take me away
I’ll spread my wings
And I’ll fly up
To those pearly gates in the sky
I won’t look back
Won’t even wonder why
And you won’t see a teardrop
Fall from my eye
No, I won’t even bother
To try and say goodbye
To all the people of this world
I love it so much
Cause they didn’t see me
When I was with themWalking alone
In a world full of people
There’s someone for everyone
Must be someone for me
So I don’t feel so alone
In a world full of people
Waiting on my turn
Before I go home
Before I spread my wings
And go back home
Where I won’t be
Alone.”
