Dr David Hufford's work explores beliefs, especially the mystical ones that the academic world treats as nonsensical. He thinks that the average person is smarter than scholars and his work looks at a range of beliefs, including mystical beliefs, ghosts or spirits and the folklore of different cultures. He is also an advocate of non-traditional healing methods and energy healing.
In his book: The World Was Flooded with Light: A Mystical Experience Remembered, Genevive tells us how a loving mystical presence followed her for many years, and she told no one. The writing of the book was the opening up of her experience to family and friends when she was in her 70s. Hufford speaks not only about the spiritual presence she felt, but also about the social constraints and stigmas, which meant that for nearly half a century she kept this remarkable experience a secret.
One in twenty people worldwide will experience the phenomenon of sleep paralysis. Experiencers wake to find that they are paralyzed and unable to move or speak. Many people experience frightening entities, shadows or shadow men, or an old woman known as "The Hag". For others, there is simply the unmistakable presence of foreboding. In extreme cases, these potentially supernatural attacks can occur for decades.
Those who seek medical advice are often misdiagnosed and labelled psychotic or schizophrenic. In this 2007 educational interview with Dr Hufford, he explores in depth the many strange and fascinating experiences that are associated with the sleep paralysis phenomenon. Taken from "Your Worst Nightmare ~ Supernatural Assault" a groundbreaking documentary originally released in 2007.
